Our school RTLB (Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour), Kylah came into my class to demonstrate a lesson based on a Structured Literacy Approach (SLA). RTLB's are put in schools to help teachers cater to those learners with learning and behaviour difficulties.
Kylah took a small group of 5 students who struggle with phonetic sounds. The focus was targeted specifically at a set of letter sounds, "s, a, t, p, i, n, c, k, ck and h". The SLA programme follows a process of revision, learning the new sound, blends, segmenting, handwriting, spelling and dictation.
